Name, Day of Birth: Chris Whelan April 26, 1972
Hometown/ Current town/ how long have you been living there: Born and raised in San Clemente
Occupation: Owner of concrete pumping business
Why have you decided to study Brazilian Ji-jitsu? And How long have you been training? I enrolled my son Christian into Paulo’s Martial Arts classes to build his confidence, after watching him have such a good time I decided to give it a try and I was instantly hooked. I have been training our self-defense martial art about 10 or 11 months and Christian has been training for a little over 1 year
Your son studies BJJ with us. Talk a little bit about him and the improvement you both have been making since you started it: Christians confidence has grown immensely from BJJ not to mention his strength and coordination and as for myself I feel that I am in the best physical shape I have been in for years!
We find that when the parent and child study BJJ together, they are more likely to accomplish a lot more. What are your thoughts on this subject? I believe that taking BJJ together with Christian has made the experience better for both of us. Christian gets to talk to me about jiu-jitsu and practice his moves on me. I think I am more dedicated to train because of him.
So far, what was your biggest accomplishment in BJJ? Winning the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Pro Gear San Clemente tournament.
And your Child’s biggest accomplishment? Getting his white and yellow belt and winning the BJJ Pro Gear tournament here in San Clemente.
Do you have any other hobby? I like to surf but I am not very good at it.
Your final thoughts: Enrolling Christian and myself is one of the best decisions I have made. Obviously I think Guillobel BJJ is best place to learn BJJ, but equally important is the environment that Paulo Guillobel, Cata, and Andre provide. I have made a lot of new friends, the Guillobel Academy truly is like one big family.
