world master 2014

Last weekend, Guillobel Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy San Clemente sent a team to compete at the World Masters IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Championship, one of the most prestigious BJJ tournaments in the world.

Leading our team was our Sensei, Paulo Guillobel, and our coach, Andre “Pretzel” Pontes. Sensei Paulo, coming from two years without competing, went up one division, and even being the older and the lighter competitor in his new division (Middle weight), he ended up taking second place, losing the final by 2 X 0. Andre Pontes, for the second year in a row, won his division, bringing the gold and the world title of Brown Belt Master Rooster weight division to San Clemente.

“Our goal is to represent our team and also represent the city of San Clemente to the best of our capability.” Said Sensei Paulo Guillobel, commenting on the results of his team. “I’m happy to still been competing and also helping my student to excel in tournaments… it’s great to see some of my students such Andre “Pretzel” become multiple time world champion.”

Both competitors had a total of 4 matches, where Coach Andre won 3 by submissions using his favorite move, the Triangle. Sensei Paulo won two matches by points and one by submission (arm-bar).

This year, the World Masters IBJJF Jiu Jitsu Championship had over 1000 competitors fighting for the title of Master World Champion.

Guillobel Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school would like to thank all the students for helping our competition team get prepare for the challenge, without them, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish what we did. Also we would like to thank the Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Association (which we belong) for their support and for being the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association in the world.
